Collection and Recycling Arrangements in Italy
Under the Italian Decree to implement 2002/96/EC Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive which came into force on August 13th 2005, for equipment that you buy from AB SCIEX after December 31st 2010, AB SCIEX is required to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of WEEE that your new purchase replaces, on a one-for-one, like-for-like basis. This is providing the weight of the old equipment is less than double that of the new purchase. The old equipment that your new purchase from AB SCIEX replaces is referred to as Historic WEEE.
Under the Decree, AB SCIEX is also required to provide arrangements for the collection, treatment, recycling and recovery of any new electrical and electronic equipment that you buy from AB SCIEX after December 31st 2010, when that new equipment eventually becomes waste. This is referred to as New WEEE.
AB SCIEX products are very competitively priced. Any new increase in operating costs for manufacturers such as AB SCIEX is normally reflected in a price increase in the product. However, instead of increasing the prices of our products, AB SCIEX has decided to share these new environmental costs directly with our customers. We believe in being transparent with you on any new environmental costs that our products need to address.
Our approach to sharing these new environmental costs is:
- AB SCIEX pays for the costs of treatment, recycling and recovery of the WEEE to meet the targets set by the Decree.
- AB SCIEX pays for the costs of data management and reporting to the Ministry of Environment to demonstrate compliance with all administrative requirements of the Decree.
- you pay for transportation of your WEEE to AB SCIEX's appointed recycler in Italy.
AB SCIEX has established a recycling contract with the European Advanced Recycling Network (EARN) and will cover any costs of treatment, recycling and recovery of the equipment on arrival at the EARN recycling facility in Italy. All New WEEE that arises from the purchase of AB SCIEX products is classed as non-hazardous waste.
It is your responsibility to arrange and pay for costs of collection and transportation to the recycler. In order to meet Italian regulations for waste disposal, you should use one of the following carriers (which hold a valid Waste Carriers licence):
Kuehne+Nagel on behalf of S.Eco Servizi Ecologici
045 8204880
For larger quantities of waste you may wish to contact the recycler directly in order to arrange and pay for an alternative collection method. The EARN recycling facility in Italy is:
SIAT S.r.l
http://www.siatambiente.com
+39 (0) 30 2733326
To comply with Italian Waste Transport Regulations all WEEE must be accompanied by suitable documentation when transported to the recycler. In order to comply with this regulation and to enable EARN to identify AB SCIEX equipment upon arrival at the recycler's address, please download the Recycling Label for Italian Customers. Complete the label with your company details and attach it to a suitable box for transport to EARN.
WEEE Reporting Recycling Data for AB SCIEX Equipment in Italy
Under Article 13 of the Decree, AB SCIEX must provide annual information on the quantities and categories of electrical and electronic equipment put on the market, reused, recycled and recovered within Italy.
The first WEEE recycling report will cover the period 2010. EARN will prepare the recycling data report for AB SCIEX. Information in the EARN recycling data report will be summarised on the AB SCIEX website when it becomes available.
